For those of you who have not yet heard, Prost Brewing has just announced the name of their new brewmaster! Larry Leinhart, a man who has devoted his life to perfecting the art of brewing, will be leading Prost Brewing forward with an overflowing mug of authentic German beer held high in the “Prosting!” position all German beer lovers and Prost Brewing fans know oh so well.

It was in the mid 80’s that Larry started on his 26 year long journey with the world of big beer at Anheuser-Busch as a member of their brewmaster staff. Taking advantage of all of the resources of one of America’s largest breweries, Larry learned about brewing from the ground up.

After 26 years, Larry had mastered everything he could, and decided to take a new path that included working with smaller, local breweries in Fort Collins, Colorado. Along this path, Larry got the chance to work as the Production Manager for Fort Collins Brewery as well as the Executive Assistant to the President at New Planet Beer. And yet, at the end of the day, Larry yearned to make one more of his brewing related hobbies into a profession.

So Larry decided to leave the Fort Collins brewing world behind in order to go back to the real roots of brewing. Digging deep into the ground to feed his passion for hops, Larry started a small hop farm in Fort Collins situated right at the base of Horsetooth Reservoir. With the devoted patience of a true farmer, Larry slowly nursed his hop farm from barren lines of tall wooden sticks and strings into a green jungle filled with overflowing vines full of hops.

Staying true to his American-German brewing past at Anheuser-Busch (and to his German surname), Larry specialized in growing Crystal (Hallertau) hops, essentially the spicier American cousin of the well-known German Hallertau. Keeping it local, Larry began to sell his hops to local Colorado craft breweries and passionate, starry-eyed home brewers in search of a local Colorado hop.

Starry-eyed himself, Larry sought out a way to jump back into the world of professional brewing. Now, as the head brewmaster of Denver’s Prost Brewing, Larry may combine his savvy big beer technological know-how with his passion for quality, local Colorado hops and brews. Here at Prost we are elated to welcome such an experienced and passionate brewer to our team. As Larry takes the helm, rest assured that Prost Brewing’s local, Colorado roots will remain firmly planted in authentic German tradition!

Now for a “Prost!” to Prost Brewing’s new head brewer and director of brewing operations, Larry Leinhart!

Prost!
