Tomorrow at 11 am, the Mayor of Munich will cry out to his thirsty, beer-loving people, “Ozapft is!” which means “It’s tapped!” in the Austro-Bavarian dialect. As the first beer is sipped up by the Minister-President of the State of Bavaria, a 12 gun salute makes it official that the 180th Munich Oktoberfest celebration has begun.

For those who live far from Munich in the Mile High City of Denver, Colorado, Oktoberfest begins today!!! Today, Friday, September 20th, marks the beginning of Prost Brewing’s Oktoberfest celebration that will last until September 29th. During this time, you may get a chance to drink all of the copper colored Märzen, the traditional German beer of Oktoberfest, that your heart so desires.

For those German beer culture fanatics, now is the time to get out your traditional German dress. Women with their Dirndl dress and men with their Lederhosen will be welcome company at Prost Brewing this weekend. For those seeking attire that is a little less elaborate, traditional Oktoberfest Bavarian hats (Tirolerhüte) are the thing to wear. Each hat contains a tuft of goat hair that is highly valued and prized at a traditional Oktoberfest. Tradition has it that the more tufts you have, the wealthier you are. Thanks to technology, cheap goat hair imitations abound so that the Tirolerhüte may be purchased and worn for a price that speaks of your “high status” and yet leaves plenty of cash for beer drinking.

Whether you are looking to dress up in traditional German Oktoberfest garb to engage in some traditional Oktoberfest festivities or you are just seeking to enjoy a taste of Oktoberfest in a relaxed, communal beer hall, Prost Brewing welcomes you in to the celebration beginning today! With plenty of fellow hands full of Märzen to “Prost!” with, you will surely discover new friends and a good time at this year’s Prost Brewing Oktoberfest!

Let the “Prost’s!” begin!
